Settlement Workers in Schools-Hamilton (SWISH)
Settlement Workers in Schools-Hamilton (SWISH) provides free governmental settlement services by focusing on the short-term needs of recently arrived newcomer families with children in schools. These services are provided in collaboration with the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB), and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB).
SWISH develops strategies for mutual understanding and collaboration between newcomer families, school staff and students and provides information on, and referrals to:
- Schools and education
- English courses
- Finding a job
- Housing for your family
- Canadian law
- Health care
- Immigration
- Translation and interpretation services
- Family related financial assistance
- Advocacy
- Other issues
SWISH Program aims at linking newcomer students and parents/guardians with the school resources and social/cultural services in the community, in order to facilitate settlement needs and foster student achievement. To access Settlement Worker in School Services
