Volunteering
SISO encourages the involvement of volunteers in all programs and activities. As well, volunteer involvement provides a venue for people to become involved in the community, share talents and learn new skills.
Volunteering can help improve morale, increase self-esteem and overcome social isolation. You may be looking for an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, to learn about diverse cultures, or to give back to the community by helping others. Whatever your reasons, SISO invites you to become an active member of our fast growing organization.
We are always looking for new volunteers to fill the increasing needs of the communities we serve. Volunteers are screened for their skills, interests and suitability. The screening process includes:

- Interview with the Coordinator of Volunteers (Interviews are scheduled upon completion of the SISO Orientation)

- Personal/Professional Reference Checks
|
- Police Record Check (Where potential volunteers will be working with children or other vulnerable people the screening process will include a police record check) to be eligible for reimbursement needs prior approval
|
- Position Specific Training, designed for the type of volunteer position you pursue
|

You will be invited to attend one of the upcoming volunteer orientations SISO Schedule or you can choose to complete the on-line session. At SISO we believe that your volunteer experience should be satisfying, challenging and fun. To assist us in finding the best possible placement for you; before attending the interview with our staff, please consider the following:
- Skills to Give; things you like to do and would willingly offer to do as a volunteer,
- Personal Growth Area; things you would like to learn or gain from your experience with SISO,
- Areas to Avoid; things you do not want to do as a volunteer, whether or not you have that skill or ability.
During the interview we will explore your interests and skills to match them with current volunteer position’s duties and skill levels. Not every position is suitable to every person; the best placement meets your skills and needs as well as assisting SISO accomplish it’s mission.

Please keep in mind that not every position is suitable to every person. In addition, some positions have more positions available; some may be currently filled to capacity and therefore may have a waiting list for volunteer placement.
