At our Language Assessment Centre (LAC) we provide

• free language assessment
• referral and information

SISO is the Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA) Centre for the Hamilton Region. Certified language assessors give a standardized assessment based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks. This assessment evaluates the learner's ability to use English in the following four skill areas:

• listening
• speaking
• reading
• writing

  To be eligible for LINC classes, you must be

  • a landed Immigrant  or
  • a convention Refugees or
  • allowed to remain in Canada with government intent to grant permanent resident status and
  • of legal school leaving age (in Ontario 18)

  After the assessment you will receive

  • your language benchmarks based on your English language ability
  • information on language training programs in Hamilton
  • a list of LINC language schools/programs in Hamilton

  LINC language training programs

  • are free
  • have transportation assistance (offer bus tickets)to eligible clients
  • offer child minding (at some locations for eligible clients)
